WLED Max tutorials
What you can do in the app today, and where each one is explained step by step.
Checked against WLED Max 1.1.4 on iOS and 1.1.4 on Android. Free for one light; a one-time upgrade adds more lights.
Add and connect lights
- Set up a new light on Wi-Fi Setup New Device walks you through the WLED-AP hotspot and adds the light when it is done.
- Find lights, or add one by IP Discover Devices looks for lights on your Wi-Fi. Manual Entry takes an IP address or host name.
- Scan a different network Lights on another subnet or VLAN can be found with Scan a Different Network.
- Allow Local Network access Where the iPhone and iPad permission lives and how to turn it back on.
Colors and effects
- Colors and the Temperature slider Three color slots, a color wheel, swatches and warm to cool white on the Control tab.
- Color one segment at a time Tap a segment chip on the Control tab and give it its own color.
- Quick Effects Up to six favorite effects in a row on the Control tab.
- Effect previews A moving preview for each effect before you apply it, with filters for music and matrix effects.
- Customize an effect Speed, Intensity, the extra sliders, palette and colors, with the preview following along.
- Effect favorites Press and hold an effect to add it to your favorites, then show only those with the Favorites chip.
- Pattern Maker Repeating bulb patterns like 2 red, 1 white, with 34 templates for holidays, teams and every day.
- Music with your phone as the microphone Music Reactive streams your phone microphone to lights that run an AudioReactive build.
Segments, presets and playlists
- Segment Studio Drag segment edges on a picture of your strip or type exact start and stop LEDs.
- Split a strip into equal zones Ready layouts for 2, 3 or 4 zones, with LEDs that two segments share marked.
- Presets and the power-on preset Save presets, tune their settings, and long-press one to make it the power-on preset.
- Presets kept on the phone Global presets that you can apply to any light, a group or all of them.
- Build a playlist Pick saved presets, set how long each plays, the fade between them, how many times it plays and Shuffle. Edit or delete it later.
- Groups Switch several lights with one tap. More than one light needs Premium.
- One effect on many lights Apply to Multiple Devices sends an effect or preset to several lights at once.
Timers, schedules and shortcuts
- Sleep timer Fade off or switch off after a set time. The timer runs on the light.
- Wake-up light Turn a light on at a set time, at the brightness you pick, with an optional preset.
- Schedules at sunset and sunrise Edit the light's own timers, sunrise and sunset included, under Device Settings.
- Circadian Mode Warm to cool white through the day on CCT lights, and Runs On Device keeps it going without the phone.
- Siri and Shortcuts Turn lights on or off, set brightness, colors, presets and effects by voice or in Shortcuts.
- Light Alerts Flash your lights for a few seconds when something happens, then they go back to what they were showing.
- Light Alerts from the Shortcuts app Start an alert from an automation, for example a text from someone or a tap on an NFC tag.
- Light Alerts from Tasker and MacroDroid Start an alert from a home screen icon, or let MacroDroid or Tasker start it for you.
- Widgets on iOS WLED Control on the home screen and WLED Quick Toggle on the Lock Screen.
- Widgets on Android WLED Control with colors, presets, brightness and effects, and a 1x1 Power Toggle.
- Quick Settings tile Toggle a light from the notification shade.
Settings, updates and fixes
- Device Settings Most WLED settings for each light on native screens, with a map of where each section sits.
- Max current Set the current limit so the power supply and wires are not overloaded.
- LED outputs Add or remove LED outputs within what the board allows.
- Firmware updates Picks the build your light reports, downloads it and installs it over Wi-Fi, in two steps on ESP02 boards that need it.
- Back up and restore a light Copies of cfg.json, presets and custom palettes kept on your phone, and a choice to keep the LED setup when you restore to a different light.
- Take Control from a stream A banner with Take Control when something is streaming to a light.
- Offline notification An optional notification when a light stays offline for a few minutes.
- Free and Premium Every feature is free for one light. Premium is a one-time purchase for more lights.
- Redeem Code Use an App Store offer code or a Google Play code from Settings.
